Why now

At $241 per person, or $482 for two, all-in, this Frontier fare is right at the typical price for the route, which is the median of 17 earlier checks. It isn't a markdown: the lowest we saw was $183 on Oct 12, and that price hasn't come back. The reason to look at this weekend is October itself. The EPCOT Food & Wine Festival and the Halloween events are both on, and the summer heat and stormy afternoons are over. The forecast shows a high of 80°F on Friday, 73°F with showers on Saturday and 78°F with drizzle on Sunday, with rain chances between 10% and 24%. That's comfortable weather for walking the parks. The trade-off is time: you leave at 10:55 PM Friday and land at 8:08 AM Saturday, so plan around one full park day.

The kind of trip this is

This is a theme-park weekend with a fast pace: a big day at Disney, Universal or Epic Universe, plus festival food and Halloween events in the evening. It suits a couple or a pair of friends who love rides and don't mind an early start after a red-eye. If you'd rather slow down, a morning on the Wekiva River gives you a quieter break.

Where to stay in Orlando

We didn't price hotels for this weekend, so the fare above is flights only. Choose your base by the park you're going to. Walt Disney World Resort has on-site hotels with early park entry and free transport, which helps when you land Saturday morning and want to go straight in. Lake Buena Vista has lower rates and a short shuttle to Disney. The Universal Orlando area is walkable to Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe, so you can skip the car on a ride-heavy day. International Drive sits in the middle, with outlet malls, restaurants and attractions. Kissimmee is mostly vacation villas with private pools, which are better for larger families than for a 2-night trip for two.

Questions readers ask

Is it worth it?

How much are the flights for two?

$482 for two, which is $241 per person round trip, all-in, on Frontier. We didn't price a hotel. A checked bag adds about $240 for two.

Is $241 a good fare?

It's the typical fare, the median of 17 earlier checks on this route. The lowest we saw was $183 on Oct 12, so this is a fair price but not a dip.

Do I need a passport?

No. It's a domestic trip in US dollars, and Orlando is on the same time as Miami.

What's the weather like?

Friday is overcast with a high of 80°F and a 10% rain chance. Saturday has showers, a high of 73°F and a 24% chance. Sunday has drizzle, a high of 78°F and a 22% chance.

Are 2 nights enough?

They're enough for one full park day. You land at 8:08 AM Saturday, so pick one park, such as EPCOT for Food & Wine, rather than trying to do them all.
