Great Smoky Mountains from Louisville, Oct 23–25: $1,577 for two, all in
The verdict
Our verdict
Worth it, if
- Fare $537 per person, $200 below the typical fare on this route
- Highs 73–75°F with 4% to 5% rain on Friday and Saturday
- Sidney James Mountain Lodge in Gatlinburg: 8.1 from 3,295 reviews, balcony room
The catch: The G4 routing takes 33h 44m with an overnight connection, landing Saturday at 4:48 PM, and the return leaves Sunday at 10:34 AM.
Worth it if you can sleep through an overnight connection for a short foliage weekend; skip it if you want two full days in the park.
Worth it if you can live with a long overnight connection. The total for two is $1,577: flights at $1,074 plus 2 nights at Sidney James Mountain Lodge at $452 and its $51 fee at the property, taxes and fees included; a checked bag and spending money are extra. You'd go Friday, Oct 23 to Sunday, Oct 25, 2026, on G4 with a stop, not nonstop.

Why now
At $537 per person, the fare is $200 below the typical fare on this route, a 27% gap. Across the 12 offers we checked, fares ran from $537 to $737. That puts the whole trip at $1,577 for two, all in, which covers the flights plus 2 nights in Gatlinburg with the $51 property fee. October is peak fall foliage in the Smokies, and the forecast looks good: clear on Friday and Saturday with highs of 73°F and 75°F and lows of 52°F, then overcast on Sunday at 78°F with a 23% rain chance. Here's the heads-up from the season note: these are the busiest weekends of the year, so expect traffic on the park roads. The lower fare also gets you less time there, since you land Saturday afternoon. Prices are what we found when we checked, and they can change.
The kind of trip this is
This is a nature getaway built around fall color. Think ridge views, waterfall hikes and a scenic loop drive, with Gatlinburg's walkable streets for dinner. It suits a couple or two friends who like an easy outdoor pace and don't mind crowds on a peak weekend. With these flight times it's a short, focused trip: a sunset, a morning in the mountains, then home.

Questions readers ask
Is it worth it?
Worth it if the flight schedule works for you. The fare is $200 per person below the typical fare on this route and the forecast is clear. But the G4 routing takes 33h 44m and lands Saturday at 4:48 PM, so your time there is short.
How much is the whole trip for two?
It's $1,577 for two, all in: flights at $1,074 and Sidney James Mountain Lodge at $452, plus its $51 fee at the property, with taxes and fees included. A checked bag (about $200 for two) and spending money aren't in that. We'd budget another $360 for spending.
Are there faster flights?
Yes, but they cost more. We saw an American flight operated by PSA Airlines as American Eagle with 1 stop, taking 3h 37m on Friday evening, for $737 per person ($1,474 for two). Another G4 option lands Saturday at 9:43 AM for $551 per person ($1,101 for two).
What is the weather like?
Friday, Oct 23 and Saturday, Oct 24 look clear, with highs of 73°F and 75°F, lows of 52°F and rain chances of 4% to 5%. Sunday turns overcast at 78°F with a 23% chance of rain.
Is 2 nights enough?
On this fare it's tight. You land Saturday at 4:48 PM and fly out Sunday at 10:34 AM, which leaves time for an evening in Gatlinburg and maybe an early Cades Cove drive. The G4 option that lands at 9:43 AM Saturday gives you most of a day.
Do I need a passport?
No. It's a domestic trip in US dollars, with no time difference from Louisville.
