Amalfi Coast from Edinburgh, 23 – 25 Oct: £797 for two, all in

The verdict

Our verdict

Worth it, if

  • Villa Zagara in Amalfi: 9.3 from 177 reviews, breakfast included
  • Free cancellation at Villa Zagara, $335 for both nights
  • Highs of 70–72°F, with an 18% chance of rain at the weekend

The catch: It isn't direct: 2 stops and 16h 50m of travel time, the return flight lands Monday at 11:05 AM, and a hold bag is about $160 for two.

Worth it if you can take Monday morning off and want breakfast included with a base in Amalfi; skip it if you need direct flights.

Worth it if you can live with stops: $1,056 for two covers the flights at $708 plus Villa Zagara at $335 and its $13 property fee, taxes and fees included. The trip is Oct 23–25, 2026, 2 nights, on U2 from Edinburgh to Naples, and it isn't direct: there are 2 stops. Hold luggage and spending money aren't in that total.

Why now

When we checked, the fare was $354 per person, $151 below the highest fare we saw for these dates. That's a 30% gap across the 12 offers we looked at. For two, the flights come to $708, and with Villa Zagara the trip comes to $1,056, all in. Late October is outside the July and August peak, when the coast road jams and hotels sell out months ahead. The forecast for Oct 23–25 shows highs of 70°F to 72°F, lows of 57°F and some drizzle. The chance of rain is 34% on Friday and drops to 18% on Saturday and Sunday. An earlier check on Oct 16 found $317 per person, so this fare has moved before and could move again. If you want a short weekend of terraces, lemon groves and one boat day, it's worth it for the two of you.

The kind of trip this is

This is a short, slow break for a couple, built around food and views: breakfast at the hotel, a stroll round Amalfi's harbour, one ferry ride and a late dinner. It suits two people who are happy to keep the pace easy and pick one big outing, Capri or Pompeii, rather than cramming both into 2 nights. A trip with friends works too, as long as everyone is fine with the stops and getting back on Monday.

Where to stay in Amalfi Coast

All three picks are in Amalfi, the central base with a working harbour and ferries to everywhere, which helps on a 2-night trip. Villa Zagara is the best value and the hotel in our total: $335 for the stay ($168 a night), 9.3 from 177 reviews, breakfast and free cancellation, and its $13 property fee is already counted. Donna Giulia has the top rating, 9.5 from 453 reviews. It's $486 for a Double Room with Sea View and breakfast, but there's no free cancellation and $56 in fees payable at the property. Hotel Fontana, 3 stars, has 8.2 from 1,409 reviews and a Triple Room for $444. It has no free cancellation and $53 in property fees. If you'd rather have quiet and sunsets than convenience, look at Praiano, between Positano and Amalfi.

Questions readers ask

Is it worth it?

Worth it if Monday morning is free for you. The 2-night trip is $1,056 for two, all in, with a hotel rated 9.3 and highs of 70–72°F. The downside is the flights: they have 2 stops, and the return lands at 11:05 AM on Monday.

How much is the whole trip for two?

$1,056. That's the flights at $708 ($354 per person) plus Villa Zagara at $335 and its $13 property fee, taxes and fees included. It doesn't cover a hold bag, about $160 for two, or spending money. Our budget sets aside $760 for spending, which makes $1,803 in all.

Do I need a passport?

Yes, you need a passport. Italy uses the euro, and the Amalfi Coast is 1 hour ahead of Edinburgh, so the jet lag is easy.

What's the weather like?

The forecast shows highs of 70°F on Friday, 71°F on Saturday and 72°F on Sunday, with lows of 57°F and some drizzle. The chance of rain is 34% on Friday and 18% on Saturday and Sunday, so bring a light layer.

Are 2 nights enough?

It's enough for one big day. You land on Friday at 1:40 PM and fly out on Sunday at 10:35 PM, so Saturday and most of Sunday are yours. Pick Capri or Pompeii, then save an evening for Ravello.

Will the price hold?

We can't promise it will. When we checked, the fare was $354 per person, $151 below the highest fare we saw for these dates. An earlier check on Oct 16 found $317 per person, so this fare moves.
