West Sedona has most of the hotels and restaurants and sits close to the trailheads, which suits a weekend built around Cathedral Rock or Devil's Bridge. Uptown Sedona is walkable, with shops, galleries and red-rock views from the main street. Oak Creek Canyon has creekside cabins and lodges in the shade north of town, and the Village of Oak Creek, a few miles south, has resorts and golf beneath Bell Rock. Boynton Canyon is for secluded luxury spa resorts like Enchantment. October is peak season, so expect high rates and look for free cancellation before you commit.
