At $605 per person, the fare we found is $156 below the highest fare we saw for these dates, out of 12 offers we checked. That puts the trip at $3,294 for two, all in: flights, 7 nights at Kihei Akahi C-513 and the $284 resort fee, taxes and fees included. A checked bag, about $140 for two, isn't in it. Mid-November falls outside Maui's peak-rate months, and the normals for the week are highs of 80–82°F with lows near 70°F. Expect mostly overcast skies with a few clearer days. Whale season starts in December, so this week is about the beach, Haleakala and the Road to Hana, not humpbacks. Prices are what we found when we checked and can change. None of the rooms we priced has free cancellation.

This is a slow beach week on Maui's sunny south shore, and it works well for the two of you. You'll spend most days on the sand in Wailea, with a sunrise trip up Haleakala and one long day on the Road to Hana. It suits couples and friends who want warm water and nature more than nightlife. The pace is easy, apart from a couple of early mornings worth setting an alarm for.

All three picks are in Wailea, the sunny south shore known for beachfront resorts and golf. Kihei, next door, is the side with condos and long sandy beaches. Kihei Akahi C-513 is the best value: a one-bedroom apartment at $1,800 for the stay, $257 a night, with a 9 review score, though from just 1 review. Its $284 resort fee is already in our total. Aston at the Maui Banyan is the budget pick at $2,016 for the stay, $288 a night, rated 7.9 from 255 reviews, and it lists $318 in fees at the property. Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui is the top rated: a 5-star suite at $7,375 for the stay, $1,054 a night, rated 9.1 from 110 reviews, plus $1,162 in fees at the property. None of them offers free cancellation.
