With the room, it comes to $2,355 for two, all in, for 9 nights. November is the main season for Luxor and Aswan Nile cruises, and it comes before December and January, the busiest months. Days in Cairo usually run 79–83°F with lows near 60°F, which is good weather for being at the Pyramids at opening time and walking the bazaar in the afternoon. Nine nights gives you time for Cairo and a flight south for a three-night cruise between the temples. Prices are as we found them on the day we checked, and they move, so look at the live fare before you decide.

We'd stay in Giza (pyramid-view hotels), where the Pyramids sit outside the window and the Grand Egyptian Museum is next door. Our best-value pick is Egypt Scarab Pyramids View: $218 for the 9-night stay ($24 a night), rated 10 from 5 reviews, room only, with free cancellation. That room is the one in the $2,355 total. For breakfast in Giza on a budget, Knz Scarab Pyramids View is $236 for the stay ($26 a night). It's 4 stars and rated 7.7 from 9 reviews, but the triple room has no view. The top-rated pick is Sama Hotel Cairo Sherif Basha: $515 for the stay ($57 a night), rated 9.1 from 294 reviews, breakfast included. All three offer free cancellation. Zamalek is the calmest central base if you'd rather be away from Giza.
