When we checked, the fare was $354 per person, $151 below the highest fare we saw for these dates. That's a 30% gap across the 12 offers we looked at. For two, the flights come to $708, and with Villa Zagara the trip comes to $1,056, all in. Late October is outside the July and August peak, when the coast road jams and hotels sell out months ahead. The forecast for Oct 23–25 shows highs of 70°F to 72°F, lows of 57°F and some drizzle. The rain chance is 34% on Friday and drops to 18% on Saturday and Sunday. An earlier check on Oct 16 found $317 per person, so this fare has moved before and could move again. If you want a short weekend of terraces, lemon groves and one boat day, it's worth it for the two of you.

This is a short, slow getaway for a couple, built around food and views: breakfast with the hotel, a walk around Amalfi's harbor, one ferry ride and a late dinner. It suits two people who are happy to keep the pace easy and pick one big outing, Capri or Pompeii, instead of cramming both into 2 nights. A friends trip works too, as long as everyone is fine with the stops and getting back on Monday.

All three picks are in Amalfi, the central base with a working harbour and ferries to everywhere, which helps on a 2-night trip. Villa Zagara is the best value and the hotel in our total: $335 for the stay ($168 a night), 9.3 from 177 reviews, breakfast and free cancellation, and its $13 property fee is already counted. Donna Giulia has the top rating, 9.5 from 453 reviews. It's $486 for a Double Room with Sea View and breakfast, but there's no free cancellation and $56 in fees at the property. Hotel Fontana, 3 stars, has 8.2 from 1,409 reviews and a Triple Room for $444. It has no free cancellation and $53 in property fees. If you'd rather have quiet and sunsets than convenience, look at Praiano, between Positano and Amalfi.
